Rosa Trevino Interim Director Rosie Trevino has held a variety of positions with the City as Finance Director for 14 years, Peace Officer and Personnel Director. She is a native of La Joya, Texas. Department Description Quick Facts The Finance Department provides support for other municipal departments, the City Manager and the City Council. The Department has an Accounting Division and a Purchasing Division. News Finance Services Audit Reports Texas law requires municipalities to complete an annual audit. Ramon Gonzalez Police Chief Ramon Gonzalez held a variety of positions in the La Joya Police Department before becoming Chief. He is a U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran. Gonzalez recently earned his Masters degree. Department Description Quick Facts The La Joya Police Department (LJPD) strives to provide the highest quality service, preserving human rights, lives, and property while attempting to achieve the mission goals of the Department, the City, and the community. We will work in partnership with our citizens to problem solve and meet the challenges of reducing crime, creating a safer environment and improving the community members’ quality of life. News La Joya PD Divisions Criminal Investigations The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) investigates crimes reported in our jurisdiction. Communications The Communications Division is an essential part of the Department and is staffed 24/7/365, including holidays & weekends. To work as a communications officer much training is involved such as certification by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Our communications officers handle 911 emergency calls for service, requests and/or any citizens needs. Our communications department also maintains constant contact with the police officers via a 2-channel radio in which calls for service are dispatched and reports are taken. Any pertinent reports also are kept in the communications office. We handle all other non-emergency calls through our non-emergency number: 956.585.4855 . Should you have any questions and/or concerns don’t hesitate to call us. Patrol Patrol Division is composed of the officers assigned to uniformed patrol, which are the first to respond to calls for assistance in the community. The Patrol Division operates 24/7/365, and it consists of three shifts. The Division provides general police services in its daily operations. Records The Records Division is an essential part of the La Joya Police Department. Division personnel assist the public in obtaining reports such as automobile accidents, offense reports and incident reports. The Division archives all police records pertaining to any incidents that occur within the City of La Joya, such as arrests that our officers have made or any other important documents that need to be filed. The records clerk is available to assist with automobile accidents, offense and incident reports or to arrange contact with a Police Officer. The Records Division is open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Our records phone number is 956.585.4855 . Emergency Operations Center (EOC) During a natural or civil emergency, the Mayor may activate the La Joya Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as authorized by the City's Emergency Operations Plan. - Havana Trash/Brush Collection Update
On Saturday, July 20, the City of La Joya will provide a briefing on solid waste and brush collection services specifically for residents of Havana. This meeting will be held at City Hall at 9:00 am. Everyone is welcome. The detailed information on proper placement of containers and account billing will be provided. On July 1, the City of La Joya and Waste Connections of Texas – RGV began providing solid waste and brush collection services in Havana. This service is provided through an exclusive franchise agreement with Waste Connections to provide collection services for all residents and businesses. La Joya Public Utility Department (PUD) customers with existing Waste Connection service are not affected. The City’s PUD has created a Utility Billing account for Havana residents using their name and address. Havana residents may confirm that their information is correct by visiting our Online Portal ( https://secure.cityoflajoya.org/signup/ ); contacting us (956.581.7002); or visiting our PUD office at City Hall. The City’s PUD will issue Havana customers an invoice for Trash and Brush pickup monthly. These invoices may be paid in person at City Hall or by using our Online Bill Portal . Billing information which includes a Fire Protection Fee will be sent to Havana customers with their first invoice in July. Havana customers do not need to make a payment at this time. - Sandbags Available for Storm Prep
In preparation for possible flooding from potential Tropical Storm 1, The City of La Joya Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has sand available for La Joya residents and businesses. This is a self-serve operation. Sand, shovels and bags are available for La Joya residents and businesses at the La Joya Police Department (rear access road). Residents must provide proof of residency with a government-issued photo identification or utility bill. Residents may prepare four bags and businesses six bags.
