New Ambulance for La Joya & Sullivan

The La Joya Fire/EMS Department is starting its second year with a new addition: a new ambulance.

The new $220,000 ambulance was awarded by the Texas Department of State Health Service (TDSHS), and required no local matching funds. The Department's Medical Director, Dr. Carlos Palacio, was instrumental in securing the funding for the City. The new EMS unit joins the existing ambulance partially financed by the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) through the Border Star grant program.

This second unit will allow the Department to better provide emergency medical response to residents of La Joya, and its partner, Sullivan City,. After completing a competitive selection process, Sullivan City awarded a contract to La Joya to provide Emergency Medical Services to its community beginning in May 2023.

Fie Chief Leroy Salinas expects the second unit to be operational by March.
